23/10/2016 0 Comments Chess League round 2 reportThis was the weirdest league night ever for me! Half an hour before clocks started, our team member Deivy cancelled!? Replacing a player on such short notice is impossible. That left Len Molden and I to battle it out with juniors from the Vancouver Chess School team 2.
Round 1: 1-1 My opponent arrived after his flag fell, nobody showed up on board 3 and Len lost. Round 2: 0-3 Board 3 forfeit, Len lost and I had to forfeit after my opponent claimed an illegal move. Promoting my pawn to Queen I had moved the pawn and pressed the clock; I had totally failed to find a Queen first. Pushing a pawn to the last rank and pressing the clock is considered an illegal move. Under rapid/blitz conditions, it's claimed as forfeit. My opponent was hopelessly lost, down to his King and pawn or two. This is what happens to rusty over-the-board chess players. Online, the software prompts you before the promotion is completed legally. Oh, well. It was a reflex: move and press clock.....The VCS2 team needed this cheap point. Round 3: 2-1 Board 3 forfeit. Len and I both won. See picture below. Final score: PoCo 3 - VCS2 5 Up next in November is a match against the Masters, headed by FM Max Gedajlovic and supported by two strong experts. Who wants to help us in November?
